The Swiss high-tech company VAT is building a production facility to manufacture vacuum valves in Malaysia - at Batu Kawan, Penang State. The new subsidiary, VAT Manufacturing Malaysia Sdn Bhd, is due to start production by the end of 2012. This will create about 100 new jobs.

VAT is an internationally active company which designs and makes vacuum valves for a wide range of industrial and research applications. VAT was founded in Switzerland in 1964. The company is 100% family-owned and completely self-financing. At its headquarters in Haag in Canton St Gallen, about 700 people work in production, product development, marketing and sales. Another 300 staff work at the production plants in Romania and Taiwan as well as the numerous distributors in the USA, Japan, Korea, Singapore, China, Taiwan and other European countries.
On February 6, 2012, construction work began on the new production plant for VAT in the newly-developed Batu Kawan industrial park. Completion is planned for October 2012, and about 100 staff will begin production of vacuum valves at the new location in December.
With the building of the new production facility in Penang, Malaysia, and with the opportunities this excellent location provides, VAT is taking a further step closer to its customers in Asia. At the same time, by creating a large number of skilled jobs, the company intends to make a contribution to the economic development of the host country.
