The following actions have been taken to fulfil the requirements of the current directives:

Products with CE marking

  • Stand-alone controllers such as, e.g., PM 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 carry the CE marking and are accompanied by a declaration of conformity in line with the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU and the EMC Directive 2014/30/EU including the relevant standards.
  • PM 6 controller are also stand-alone controllers that carry the CE marking. They are accompanied by a declaration of conformity in line with the EMC Directive 2014/30/EU including all relevant standards.
  • Demountable heating jackets carry the CE marking as they are deemed to be operable independently. The declaration of conformity is in line with all relevant standards as per the Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU.
  • Individual components such as sensors and heater cartridges that are procured by VAT from other manufacturers may also carry the CE marking of the manufacturer, in line with one or several EU directives.

Products without CE marking

  • VAT valves with integrated controllers are not CE marked as they constitute a component of an incomplete machine as provided by Machinery Directive 2006/42/EU, Article 2, paragraph g. The valves are accompanied by a declaration of incorporation in which reference is made to the EU Directive 2014/30/EU governing electromagnetic compatibility.
  • VAT components and spare parts such as controllers, heaters or positon sensors that are directly attached to the valve or integrated in the valve are not CE marked, nor are they accompanied by a declaration of incorporation. They are not governed by the Machinery Directive 2014/30/EU.
  • According to Article 1, paragraphs j-ii of the 2014/68/EU Pressure Equipment Directive, VAT valves with pneumatic actuators are not considered to be pressure devices but control devices and are thus not governed by this Directive.

Functional safety of VAT valve

  • VAT valves are used for various applications in the vacuum range. They are classified as incomplete machinery and are subject to the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
  • However, VAT valves are no safety components. For this reason, it is not possible to make statements concerning the functional safety (SIL, PL) according to the ISO standards 13849 and 62061.
  • Information on reliability indicators (MTTF or MTBF) must be demanded from the responsible business unit.
